Journal Club Videos
Welcome to my new series, The Journal Club!
When I was in graduate school, I struggled with reading scientific articles. No one teaches you how to approach a paper; graduate school tends to favor the “sink or swim” approach to teaching. Unfortunately, that kind of teaching is not my style, and I would struggle for many years on how to appropriately read a paper in my field. In the style of Douglas Adams, I sank much like a feather wouldn’t. Post graduation, I not only wish to produce content that would have helped me all those year ago, but to also make so many science papers approachable to a general audience. These papers are dense and hard to read, which is a detriment to everyone in this so-called “age of misinformation.”
For each video, we will do a walkthrough of each figure of a paper, as well as discuss the background and future directions based on the data we review. This video is meant for new graduate students or science-curious laymen.
Think of it as a free introductory course on “how to read a science paper”!
